Also Obacht!

In conventional world-building, there is an unquestioned assumption of creators, who are real, and a created, which is fictional. There is also an assumption that the first is fixed, and the second is malleable. But of course, malleability is an attribute of the real, whereas being fixed is a sign of the fictional. What is once created, stays the same on paper. But does it stay the same in one´s mind? Of course not. Neither the creator nor the consumer of fiction has the ability of keeping an idea unchanging. Where does this lead us?

Breaking with conventions, one might suggest to revert the paradigm: Make the creator fictional, and the creation be reality. Assuming there is only one reality, does this mean that it includes fiction, as it does now contain its own creator? Coming back to the aforementioned statement of malleability being a property of the real, one could suggest that the fiction within reality makes it malleable. However, there is good reason to doubt this: Time does not seem to be a solved issue, and there are multiple tries of denying and/or abolishing time itself. Without time, would malleability become entirely a product of ever-evolving fiction? The "death of the author" would kill time itself - but isn't that exactly what death implies?

Herrje, o Herr, Herr Je!

The formation of something new is to be distinguished from the erosion of the old, even it is not a clear distinction. The truly new is seeping into the holes that are eroding in the structure of the old ideas. It is often not recognized as such. The nature of the new is to not be fully understood. It would be a futile attempt of looking at the process of creation if one would try to understand it, as that action itself is antithetical to it. It is the old, that must be understood, or, to be precise, the processes of its erosion. What is left oft the old, truly, after time has come and nibbled on it? The observer is in a continuing process to vanish, and the observed is just as likely to disappear, forgotten. A quote comes to mind:
"And so many think because Then happened, Now isn't. But didn't I mention the ongoing "wow" is happening right now? We are all co-authors of this dancing exuberance where even our inabilities are having a roast. We are the authors of ourselves, co-authoring a gigantic Dostoevsky novel, starring clowns. This entire thing we're involved with called the world, is an opportunity to exhibit how exciting alienation can be. Life is a matter of a miracle that is collected over time by moments, flabbergasted to be in each other's presence."
[...]
"Before you drift off, don't forget. Which is to say, remember. Because remembering is so much more a psychotic activity than forgetting."
Now, what does it mean to be forgetful? Aren't we more free of our past, if we forget? The more erosion destroys the idea, the more space is there for the new to come. I have to admit that this excites me.

Now, _acting without a goal_ has its own long tradition. Culturally speaking, it is unpopular, which is precisely what makes it attractive to the seeker of the new. It is self-contradictory like all good art is, when you have a closer look. Creating fiction, and further trying to make fiction more real, what a futile task! On some level, we are aware that true immersion would not be a good idea, we would simply lose ourselves, as is made obvious in the Neverending Story in a much more blatant fashion - but it is not that we cannot find out, it is that there is no more "out" to find, for we have replaced it totally. The price of immersion is changing yourself to a degree that you are irrecognizable. However, under controlled circumstances - we need to talk about "control" later on - under controlled circumstances that is certainly something one could wish for, even something one could be consumed with! But even if there is no desire at all, we cannot escape change, so we might as well - roll with it.

Teddy bears are a social construct.

Possession - to possess art, is it to transform it, or is it to be transformed by it? Either way, it seems that the teddy bear does not care, and yet, it does care, by virtue of being a teddy bear, a formerly-empty entity that has been filled with caring and compassion by social convention and by personal attention. May our fiction always care about us! To possess a teddy bear is to instill it with that kind of caring, to gift it the ability to act without acting, to move without moving, to speak without saying anything. It is precisely because it cannot comfort that it comforts. There is something tragic about when that promise is broken in horror movies.
The rock however can be climbed, but not possessed in the same way as the teddy bear. One might say that they have defeated it, by standing on top, far above the common folk that does not have the same agility to climb. But that, while tempting, misses the point of the rock: To stand unmoved, from whichever perspective you take in relation to it. In fact, it might be more interesting to lie buried beneath it! Overwhelmed, drowning in rubble, you may find the rock as good a guardian as the bear.
